Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole body cryotherapy (WBC or “Cryo”) involves exposing the body to ultra cold temperatures for several minutes. The temperature of our Cryo chamber at its peak hovers around -200 F°. Such extreme cold might seem impossible to tolerate, but the dry chill of WBC is very different than an ice bath, a “polar plunge,” or even a cold shower. People often use the word, “refreshing.”

The benefits of whole body cryotherapy are amazing.

Infrared Sauna

Infrared saunas are increasingly popular in the wellness community for a number of reasons including a multitude of health benefits. Plus, time in the sauna just makes you feel good (all year round)!

As your body absorbs the infrared heat, a rise in thermal energy induces a deep and relaxing sweat. The radiant heat can penetrate deep below the skin producing a gentle warming inside the body.

Cryo facials

Who doesn’t want smooth, glowing skin?  Cryotherapy stimulates the production of collagen, a protein the skin needs to keep its elasticity.

As we age, less and less collagen is produced and the skin loses its elasticity. Over time, our skin can become saggy and develop wrinkles. Both whole body cryotherapy and cryo facials (a special treatment with cold vapor applied gently to your face and neck) will help regenerate your skin cells, improve firmness and elasticity, reduce puffiness, and decrease fine lines and wrinkles.

Local Cryotherapy

Local or “spot” cryotherapy involves applying a gentle stream of ultra cold air to a specific area of the body. It can complement WBC, or it can be an alternative for those who wish to focus on a particularly problematic issue.

Local cryotherapy is specifically beneficial in early stages of an injury or right after a surgery, especially if swelling is involved. Cooling the area slows tissue metabolism and stops swelling, preventing secondary cellular damage caused by the acute inflammation.

Compression

At Catskill Cryo, you can experience the NormaTec PULSE leg recovery system. Unlike static compression therapies, our NormaTec system uses dynamic compression (pulsing) to help stimulate circulation and eliminate fluid (like lactic acid) from your legs. For athletes, compression after an intense workout can bring “fresh” legs back in 10-20 minutes.

Beyond athletic recovery, doctors often prescribe compression therapy for a number of chronic conditions, including fibromyalgia and lymphatic diseases. It is also a preferred treatment for people with, or who are at risk of developing, circulation problems like varicose veins, diabetes, and edema (swelling). Plus, it feels amazing.
